Cleaning your GE fridge parts to avoid repair
Clean the condenser fan, typically located at the back of the fridge. Unfortunately, a move away from the wall may in your future, but think of how clean and efficient your fridge will be after.
Now that your GE fridge is away from the wall and you have space to get behind it, remove that back cover and get in there. The fan is located inside the lower back quadrant of the fridge. This allows air to blow and cool off important other parts such as coils. Take a long cleaning device, such as a cloth on a stick of some sort and gently wipe away dust and debris, next, use your vacuum to collect any loose dander floating around. Give the back cover a wipe and place it back on the fridge.
Your GE fridge may be moved back to it’s former position now, but if you would like, give the spot a vacuum first. Move to the front of your fridge and remove the grill located underneath the doors at the very bottom. Once opened, locate the condenser coils and clean with a coil brush. This will take out all of the dander trapped in between the coils and allow them to breathe better, releasing heat necessary to keeping your fridge cool. Vacuum out the coils and the general area, as well as the grill and snap it back on. We suggest doing this about twice a year, especially if you have pets that shed.
For inner cleaning, take a damp paper towel and wipe any spills in obvious areas, but also in between the meeting of the door and the rest of the fridge. This is an area that is often neglected as it hides spills and splashes well. They can go unnoticed and for a glue-like substance, eventually breaking seals and allowing the air to escape your fridge.
Our final tip is very simple; check your fridge and freezer compartment for any obstructions near the vents located in your fridge and freezer. Keep bags, food, ice, dishes, anything that can block the flow of air at least three inches from a vent. Avoid packing your fridge and freezer too tight for this reason. Smaller debris may clog the tubes and lead to malfunction.
